Silver and Marl Lake Water Quality Updates Silver Lake Water Quality for 2010.E.coli testing results Since May, weekly E.coli readings taken by the County at the Silver Lake Park beach have all been under the State's guideline of 300 E. coli per 100ml of water. Listed below are E.Coli levels in parts per 100 ml from May 17th to July 12th. We are currently well below State guidlines for E.coli thanks to our goose round up program.
The lake association has conducted SECCHI disk readings on Silver Lake and reported finding to Michigan Lakes and Streams since 2004. For our lake readings an eight inch painted disk is lowered in predetermined areas on the lake and readings are taken when the disk is no longer visible in the water. Lakes with high water clarity or transparency are universally valued as exceptional quality resources. A lake's clarity is influenced by several factors, but for most lakes the amount of algae in the water is a major cause for changes in transparency. In lakes with high nutrient inputs and abundant algae the disk reading are typically two to three feet. In very clear lakes Secchi disk values can be greater than 30 feet. 2010 testing results - The readings were take in areas of the lake that are 30 feet deep.
